To institutionalize the progress made during the initial and current phase, the Initiative will develop curricula that supports FAIR deployment.

After the successful deployment of FAIR Data Points (FDPs) among the partner institutions in the VODAN Africa Implementation Networks during the initial phase of the project. The objectives, set milestones and expected deliverables for the next phase of the VODAN Africa Initiative was shared by the Global Coordinator, Prof. Mirjam Van Reisen during the weekly webinar on 6th October 2020.

According to Prof. Van Reisen, the next phase of the project will be owned by VODAN Africa. We have an excellent team that can carry out the next phase. Among the areas to focus on including data documentation, data production (emphasis on deploying data production in real-life situations), data convergence, and data interoperability.

The initiative will also test the deployment of FDPs in real-life situations. This entails querying data between clinics, hospitals, and the creation of information flows between them. During this phase, the partner institutions are expected to deploy themselves as data competence centers.

To institutionalize the progress made during the initial and current phase, the Initiative will develop curricula that support FAIR deployment. Currently, VODAN Africa has nine FDPs located in Uganda (one), Nigeria (two), Ethiopia (two) and Tunisia (one), Kenya (three), and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in The Netherlands.

Launching an international FAIR data network for COVID-19 Data

Among the set, milestones is the launch of a special issue that will provide an analysis of how the opportunity emerged to launch the FAIR data network during this pandemic through the lens of open data. It will present analytical empirical perspectives across disciplines. The authors will present state-of-the-art research findings on the latest developments of the relevance of FAIR to society in this new context.
