Executive Summary
Virus Outbreak Data Network (VODAN) Africa is pioneering the production of health data that are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) at local hospitals and clinics across Africa. Currently, In Africa, data analytics in health facilities can be facilitated by interoperable data, and this would increase the value of data at the Point of Care.
VODAN Africa aims to strengthen data ownership and benefits to quality health at the point of care in Africa; while increasing interoperability and re-use of data under strict access and control conditions for collaboration for research through data visiting.
We are developing a next-generation system with data scientists from Africa that allows health professionals in selected clinics/hospitals across Africa` to access data needed for research and clinical observation. This system generates data that is FAIR and can be accessed by anyone under the data regulatory laws of the participating countries.
VODAN Africa is implementing FAIR health data in Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia Nigeria, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The network is also creating FAIR Health Research Data in Tunisia, which complements the clinical data from health facilities.
